Plywood isn’t usually the first pick when it comes to the material of choice for furniture, but Blå Station is changing that. The Swedish brand’s new furniture collection, Plybord, consists of three versatile seating designs that showcase the beauty of the plywood grain. The pigmented dyes allow the grain to stand out even more so than if it was left untreated. Plybord can be used as a seat, a stool, or a table. When left alone, the line acts as an objet d’art reminiscent of cityscapes and becomes a plaything for both kids and adults.
Designed by Johan Lindau, Blå Station’s CEO and design manager, Plybord is able to exist without any internal support structures. “I experimented with different kinds of miter and joint,” he explains. Although difficult, he concludes that “everything is possible with good craftsmanship.”
